Caterpillar Countdown- Thursday

Dear Diary,

It’s day 4 of party planing, and I’ve worked up an appetite.  I craved cookies and candy. Maybe the sugar will give me a second wind.

On Thursday, I flew in cookies from Hawaii and created a candy buffet.

The Cookie Queen takes a page right out of Eric Carle’s book!

Her treats look too good to even eat, but  I did take a bite out of the lollipop one, which arrived in two pieces.  The cookies were each individually bagged and packed in bubble wrap.  When I told the owner one was broken, she said she would ship a replacement!  She also offered a $10 discount on my next order.  Awesome customer service!  I wasn’t upset in the least.  As a matter of fact, my 7-year-old nephew and I were secretly happy, because we got to taste test the batch without feeling guilty.

In addition to the food items, I received before and after caterpillars and a beautiful butterfly.   She also created a polka-dotted cookie that read, Caitlynn is One!

Very Extravagant

Order cookies from the Cookie Queen.  Buy one gallon penny jar glass containers and decorate with polka-dot stickers.  Fill the penny candy jars with Gerber Graduate Puffs.  It took four containers to fill the jar.  I recommend buying 1/2 gallon jars.  The one gallon jars were really big!

Very Affordable

I borrowed Mason Jars from my mother to use as candy containers.  I decorated the containers with ribbons and labels, which I made on my computer.  I picked up brand name candy, like Lemon Heads and Gummy Worms, at the Dollar Store.  My mom–who by the way holds the world record in shopping–for some reason purchased a gum ball machine years ago, so we went to the bulk candy store in the Strip District and got gum balls.

Make a lollipop tree.  I got this idea from a DFTM member Monique.  I printed out a caterpillar, put a party hat sticker on its head and a cupcake in its mouth.  I also bought a large flower-pot from Michael’s, which was only a few dollars, and a Styrofoam ball.

But I was still hungry to plan more.

Not long ago, Heather Hopson hosted a television show in the Cayman Islands. Today, she's back home writing a different kind of story as a new mom. In her 15 years working as a professional journalist, this by far is her best assignment! Growing up, she dreamed of becoming Oprah Winfrey. She was the features editor for her school’s newspaper and a teen talk show host for her city’s most popular radio station. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. After graduation, she worked as a television producer and reporter at CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates throughout the U.S. Instead of heading to Chicago to join Ms. Winfrey on her set, she bought a plane ticket to the Cayman Islands instead. She arrived five days before a category five hurricane! She lived in paradise for seven years, hosted an award-winning television show and traveled the globe with a government delegation. She also served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and spearheaded a Send a Kid to Camp campaign. Then, she relocated to Washington, D.C. to obtain a teaching certification and instruct 8th grade reading at a high needs middle school. She later returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to raise her daughter Caitlynn, now 4-years-old. During her 10-month-stint as a stay-at-home mom, Caitlynn inspired her to create this blog, and Diary of a First Time Mom was born on Mother’s Day 2012. Two years later, she expanded the family to include 20+ writers. Currently, Heather serves as the communications director at Allies for Children. In addition, she is the owner of Motor Mouth Multimedia, which ranked #49 in Startup Nation’s Home-Based 100 Competition sponsored by Discover Card and Sam’s Club. Recently, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments selected Heather to receive an Emerging Black Artist award to develop Diary of a First Time Mom.

Hey there! This is kind of off topic but I need some guidance
from an established blog. Is it very hard to set up
your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m thinking about creating my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any points or suggestions? Thanks
