Dear Diary,

This week, I worked 60+ hours for my job and my blog. I went to a legislative breakfast that pushed for universal preschool in Pennsylvania. I met with a communications colleague to implement strategies around a statewide education initiative. And I wrote a ten-page report for a major funder. All within 24 hours. Fortunately, my daughter was with her dad! I put in longer days during his co-parenting time in order to work shorter shifts when she’s at home with me. But I sometimes forget to run personal errands, like getting an oil change. My notification light has been blinking!

Thanks to Walmart’s Automotive Care Center, I could drop of my car and shop while I wait. I got a Penzoil oil change to prepare for the road trip to pick up Caitlynn in New Jersey. Plus, I picked up snacks, crayons, paper, books and other items for the six-hour trek. This is the perfect co-parents plan for road trips. Although work is important, ensuring my daughter’s safety is at the top of the to-do list. Penzoil provides complete protection, which allows me to drive an extra 550 miles per year with a cleaner engine. No other motor oil provides better protection from friction My vehicle required Platinum (synthetic motor oil), which is the best cleanliness and protection in the Pennzoil line-up.

Pennzoil also offers a free warranty that covers 15 engine parts that may fail due to engine wear or which experience abnormal wear due to friction. The service keeps up with my busy life as a co-parent. I hit the highway every month!

The affordable cost and convenience of Walmart’s Automotive Care Center allows me to spend more money and time with my little girl as soon as she buckles into her seat. We headed to Atlantic City to shop and sight see. And of course take a trip to the boardwalk’s amusement park. I didn’t worry as much about splurging. Usually, she picks out one present in the store. This time, she got two–a Hello Kitty doll and a Minnie Mouse Pez dispenser. And when she wanted to me to ride the merry-go-round and the tea cups–she usually asks me to watch and wave at her–I didn’t frown at purchasing another batch of amusement tickets. She thanked me and told me that I work to buy her toys. Then, she announced that she wanted to be the tooth fairy when she grew up!

Seeing the smile on her face was worth it! And although I’m blessed with a great job, I’m still a single mom with a single income. So saving money also makes me smile. You can save a few bucks as well! From June 10th – September 9th, Pennzoil oil changes will be on Rollback at Walmart Automotive Care Center stores. High Mileage is $35.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $39.88. Industry standard price is $46. Platinum Full Synthetic is $45.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $49.88.

Hey DFTM Fam–How do you plan to spend the money you save this summer? What trips do you have on the horizon? Meanwhile, you can follow Penzoil on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to share your road trip stories.

Not long ago, Heather Hopson hosted a television show in the Cayman Islands. Today, she's back home writing a different kind of story as a new mom. In her 15 years working as a professional journalist, this by far is her best assignment! Growing up, she dreamed of becoming Oprah Winfrey. She was the features editor for her school’s newspaper and a teen talk show host for her city’s most popular radio station. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. After graduation, she worked as a television producer and reporter at CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates throughout the U.S. Instead of heading to Chicago to join Ms. Winfrey on her set, she bought a plane ticket to the Cayman Islands instead. She arrived five days before a category five hurricane! She lived in paradise for seven years, hosted an award-winning television show and traveled the globe with a government delegation. She also served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and spearheaded a Send a Kid to Camp campaign. Then, she relocated to Washington, D.C. to obtain a teaching certification and instruct 8th grade reading at a high needs middle school. She later returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to raise her daughter Caitlynn, now 4-years-old. During her 10-month-stint as a stay-at-home mom, Caitlynn inspired her to create this blog, and Diary of a First Time Mom was born on Mother’s Day 2012. Two years later, she expanded the family to include 20+ writers. Currently, Heather serves as the communications director at Allies for Children. In addition, she is the owner of Motor Mouth Multimedia, which ranked #49 in Startup Nation’s Home-Based 100 Competition sponsored by Discover Card and Sam’s Club. Recently, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments selected Heather to receive an Emerging Black Artist award to develop Diary of a First Time Mom.
