Dear Diary,

In our family, we have a tradition of celebrating fathers at a Father’s Day brunch.  My sister hosts the event at her house and does most of the cooking as I am the takeout queen in our family.  This year, I am required to bring a covered dish–not drinks, desserts or paper products as I have done in the past.  Not sure what I will whip up, but I do know after the kitchen is cleaned and the food is packed up, we’ll probably take the kids out and about.   Here are five fun places to make Father’s Day the most memorable yet.  Plus, some of the ideas are great suggestions to burn the calories from waffles, shrimp and grits and bacon! Here are five fun places to celebrate Father’s Day.

1. Get the Royal Treatment

Since dads are kings for the day, why not give them the royal treatment? At Art of Shaving, fathers can get the ultimate indulgence and receive a royal shave by an expertly trained barber. If the $65 fee isn’t in the budget, you can create a spa in your home with a hot towel, razor, shaving cream and face balm.

2. Go Wild

Zoos across the country, including here in Pittsburgh, are offering free admission to fathers this Sunday.  Gather the whole herd and enjoy a safari celebration. You can make it an educational activity by teaching your little ones about all the furry fathers you see.

3. Take a Ride

Zoos aren’t the only attractions offering freebies for father’s. Many amusement parks, like the Land of Make Believe in New Jersey, are waiving admissions as well. You can take dad on the ride of the summer, scream at the top of your lungs while on a roller coaster and eat cotton candy until your stomachaches.

4. Go Golfing

Grab the golf clubs and head out onto the greens, especially if the father in your life plays putt-putt in his backyard. Expand his horizons to play with the pros. If the children are too small to swing, check out a miniature golf course or check out Top Golf locations in Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Washington, D.C.

5. Get Fired up

Take dad and his artistic offspring to a ceramic studio to celebrate the day. The kids can make a big impression by making gifts using their hand and footprints. Don’t forget to snap a shot, print the picture and put in the frame your little ones paint.
