Dear Diary,

My baby is growing up! As difficult that fact of life is to accept, I’m proud of the little person my little girl is becoming. She’s smart, sassy and silly. Just like her mommy was at three-years-old, from what I’m told. Recently,  Caitlynn received recognition for completing the first year of preschool, and for the first time, she headed to summer camp. And it didn’t take her long to make friends. She jumped right into circle time when I dropped her off. When I picked her up, she told me about her day and a quiet camper. Noticing the little girl wasn’t talking or playing, Caitlynn asked her what was wrong. The girl responded that she was shy around big kids. Caitlynn took her by the hand and told her she didn’t have to be afraid and that she would be her friend. That’s just one example of why Caitlynn is a super kid.

Since she had an action packed day full of swimming, running and befriending,  we headed to Denny’s to check out the new action-packed fare on the new limited edition ‘Slamtastic 4’  menu,. It features a selection of iconic Denny’s dishes inspired by the Fantastic Four movie, which opens in theaters August 7th. The Marvel-ous menu explodes with dishes such as the sizzling Human Torch Skillet, The Thing Burger and the Invisible Woman Slam®.

After we ordered, we talked about what it means to be a super hero. Caitlynn told me super heroes wear a cape, fly really fast and help people. Oh, and most importantly, super heroes don’t take naps! I told her super heroes have super powers, like great eyesight. That sparked a game of I Spy until the waitress came with our order.

Super heroes may not nap but they definitely eat! We ordered the strawberry pancake puppies and the Dr. Doom Lava Cake. Well, I ordered the cake, but Caitlynn used her super powers to move it across the table and onto her placemat!

To celebrate the highly anticipated movie, Denny’s is offering one lucky Fantastic Four fan a trip for two to the movie premiere on Aug. 4. You can enter for a chance to win the trip of a lifetime now through July 19 fans by visiting www.dennysfantastic4.com. In addition to the exclusive sweepstakes and fantastic menu, you will have plenty of other ways to enjoy a taste of the movie at Denny’s. Next week, commercials bringing the Fantastic Four characters straight to America’s Diner will broadcast and Denny’s Instagram channel will be posting a series of exclusive clips throughout the partnership.

Hey DFTM Fam–What qualities do you think make a great super hero? And what would you order off of the new Slamtastic 4 menu?

Not long ago, Heather Hopson hosted a television show in the Cayman Islands. Today, she's back home writing a different kind of story as a new mom. In her 15 years working as a professional journalist, this by far is her best assignment! Growing up, she dreamed of becoming Oprah Winfrey. She was the features editor for her school’s newspaper and a teen talk show host for her city’s most popular radio station. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. After graduation, she worked as a television producer and reporter at CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates throughout the U.S. Instead of heading to Chicago to join Ms. Winfrey on her set, she bought a plane ticket to the Cayman Islands instead. She arrived five days before a category five hurricane! She lived in paradise for seven years, hosted an award-winning television show and traveled the globe with a government delegation. She also served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and spearheaded a Send a Kid to Camp campaign. Then, she relocated to Washington, D.C. to obtain a teaching certification and instruct 8th grade reading at a high needs middle school. She later returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to raise her daughter Caitlynn, now 4-years-old. During her 10-month-stint as a stay-at-home mom, Caitlynn inspired her to create this blog, and Diary of a First Time Mom was born on Mother’s Day 2012. Two years later, she expanded the family to include 20+ writers. Currently, Heather serves as the communications director at Allies for Children. In addition, she is the owner of Motor Mouth Multimedia, which ranked #49 in Startup Nation’s Home-Based 100 Competition sponsored by Discover Card and Sam’s Club. Recently, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments selected Heather to receive an Emerging Black Artist award to develop Diary of a First Time Mom.
