Playtex Baby Disclosure

LaToya Maddox always wanted to become a mother. But she didn’t think she could have children. About 14 years ago, she had a miscarriage and underwent a D and C surgery. Her doctor told her she would never be able to reproduce. Then in May 2012, she went to her yearly gynecologist appointment, and to her surprise, she was pregnant. She gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in January 2013, and six months later, she discovered she was pregnant again–this time with a baby boy. Since then, she has lived her life to the fullest. She moved from California to Georgia with her husband. She took a job as a middle school teacher and cheerleading coach. When not at school, she works as an event planner and a plus-size professional model.

It’s not all work and no play for this mom on the go. LaToya loves to travel, so she’s figuring out how to navigate vacation planning for not only a couple but a family. So, I thought LaToya would be the perfect person to review Playtex™  products that make traveling with little ones a cinch.

Heather: How is your pre- and post baby life different?

LaToya: Before my sweet babies, I was able to get up and go! I did whatever I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. Now, I have to take along two children, baby bags, double stroller and lots of gear It usually takes an hour for us to get ready and out the house.

Playtex Baby Travel Products

Heather: Have you taken any trips with your children? How did you transport bottles and other supplies?

LaToya: We took an overnight trip with my first baby. I just threw a bunch of bottles in a suitcase for the trip, because I wasn’t sure how many to take. My dream family vacation would be Orlando, Bahamas or Hawaii.

Heather: How do you keep the little ones occupied in the car or on a plane?

LaToya: My three-month-old usually goes to sleep in the car. I bring my tablet for my one-year-old, so she can watch cartoons and movies.

Heather: How has the Playtex Baby® products helped make traveling with your children easier?

LaToya: The Playtex™ Smart Cool On-The-Go Bottle Tote keeps bottles and cups cool for hours, so I don’t have to worry about the milk spoiling. It’s finally warming up in Atlanta. During the winter, it was cold enough to do without the insulator. I’m sure now that it’s getting warmer, I will need to use the tote to keep things cool.

Playtex SmartCool Tote

Heather: The tote keeps things cool for up to 14 hours. That’s an entire road trip to Grandma’s house and back! It holds up to three bottles, pacifiers and nipples. You could probably throw in other things, like teething rings. Frozen teething rings were a life saver! The tote allows you to keep everything organized in your diaper bag.

LaToya: Yes! I also love the Playtex™ SmartSpace Dishwasher Basket, because it helps to keep things organized at home. It’s also small, which saves spaces in the kitchen.

Playtex Baby Dish Rack

Heather: I wish I used a basket when my daughter was a baby. I had to dig to the back of the dishwasher when parts of bottles got tossed around during the cycle. The basket protects small parts like nipples, valves and straws. It is portable, so you can take it with you to a relative’s or an even a vacation condo.  What are your other must-pack items?

LaToya: I don’t leave the house without bottles, cups, formula, pacifiers, burp cloths and extra clothes

Heather: Thank you LaToya for putting the Playtex™ products to the test! Diary of a First Time Mom is offering ten lucky readers a chance to do the same! We’re giving away ten sets of the Playtex™ Smart Cool On-The-Go Bottle Totes and Playtex™ Smart Cool On-The-Go Bottle Totes.

Vlog Mom/DFTM Creator

Not long ago, Heather Hopson hosted a television show in the Cayman Islands. Today, she's back home writing a different kind of story as a new mom. In her 15 years working as a professional journalist, this by far is her best assignment! Growing up, she dreamed of becoming Oprah Winfrey. She was the features editor for her school’s newspaper and a teen talk show host for her city’s most popular radio station. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. After graduation, she worked as a television producer and reporter at CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates throughout the U.S. Instead of heading to Chicago to join Ms. Winfrey on her set, she bought a plane ticket to the Cayman Islands instead. She arrived five days before a category five hurricane! She lived in paradise for seven years, hosted an award-winning television show and traveled the globe with a government delegation. She also served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and spearheaded a Send a Kid to Camp campaign. Then, she relocated to Washington, D.C. to obtain a teaching certification and instruct 8th grade reading at a high needs middle school. She later returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to raise her daughter Caitlynn, now 4-years-old. During her 10-month-stint as a stay-at-home mom, Caitlynn inspired her to create this blog, and Diary of a First Time Mom was born on Mother’s Day 2012. Two years later, she expanded the family to include 20+ writers. Currently, Heather serves as the communications director at Allies for Children. In addition, she is the owner of Motor Mouth Multimedia, which ranked #49 in Startup Nation’s Home-Based 100 Competition sponsored by Discover Card and Sam’s Club. Recently, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments selected Heather to receive an Emerging Black Artist award to develop Diary of a First Time Mom.

I got Playtex bottles as a gift for my baby shower and they were a gem. Even though I breastfed our son for almost 2 years, I needed the bottles when I was away working a PT job or a freelance gig.
