Diary of a First Time Mom is excited to promote JLust by Jennifer Lopez, a fabulous fragrance recently released. Although I received some form of compensation, all opinions are my own.

Dear Diary,

This Mother’s Day, I’m celebrating not only being a mom but also being a woman, which is something I often forget to do. I always remember to buy new clothes, make hair appointments and schedule stress free, fun activities…for my daughter. When it comes to taking care of myself, like many moms, those tasks slip to the bottom of my to-do-list. I tell myself that I don’t have the time, money or desire to put myself first.

But I’m learning that when I feel good, smell good and look good, it benefits both myself and my daughter. Here’s how you can do the same, no matter how big (or little) the budget.

1

For $100, I can escape the daily grind at the spa and get a massage or facial. And if the budget doesn’t allow this expense, I can make my a natural cleanser at home with what’s already in the refrigerator–ingredients like avocados, lemons or yogurt.

2

For around $50, I can buy a bottle of perfume, like the recently released JLust by Jennifer Lopez sold at Khohl’s. Alluring and sensual, this fragrance makes you feel sophisticated and feminine. When I wore perfume–before I became a mom–I always was always attracted to fruity fragrances. JLust has notes of  mandarins, apple blossoms, strawberries, and white peaches.

Something as simple as spraying perfume can transform you. I’m always rushing when I get ready in the morning–spending more time grooming my little one than primping mommy. So spritzing was uplifting! I smelled good–and people took notice! I was never really a wall flower, but when I became a mom I sort of shriveled. I didn’t focus on fragrances. I was more concerned with coffee. But now I know, I can do both–and it’s refreshing and reviving. I can be a mom and a woman a man lusts after!

And I can smell good even in my pajamas, curled up on the couch watching JLo’s hit drama Shades of Blue.

3

For $20, you can hit happy hour! I bought this dress months ago and waited for a big celebration to pull it out of the closet. Then, I decided to celebrate life! My sorority sister and I shared cocktails and conversation.

To help me remember to take care of myself, I creating a #JLustList, featuring things I’m currently lusting over. You can win one of these items! I’m giving away a bottle of #JLustbyJLo. Enter below for a chance to win!

Not long ago, Heather Hopson hosted a television show in the Cayman Islands. Today, she's back home writing a different kind of story as a new mom. In her 15 years working as a professional journalist, this by far is her best assignment! Growing up, she dreamed of becoming Oprah Winfrey. She was the features editor for her school’s newspaper and a teen talk show host for her city’s most popular radio station. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. After graduation, she worked as a television producer and reporter at CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates throughout the U.S. Instead of heading to Chicago to join Ms. Winfrey on her set, she bought a plane ticket to the Cayman Islands instead. She arrived five days before a category five hurricane! She lived in paradise for seven years, hosted an award-winning television show and traveled the globe with a government delegation. She also served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters and spearheaded a Send a Kid to Camp campaign. Then, she relocated to Washington, D.C. to obtain a teaching certification and instruct 8th grade reading at a high needs middle school. She later returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA to raise her daughter Caitlynn, now 4-years-old. During her 10-month-stint as a stay-at-home mom, Caitlynn inspired her to create this blog, and Diary of a First Time Mom was born on Mother’s Day 2012. Two years later, she expanded the family to include 20+ writers. Currently, Heather serves as the communications director at Allies for Children. In addition, she is the owner of Motor Mouth Multimedia, which ranked #49 in Startup Nation’s Home-Based 100 Competition sponsored by Discover Card and Sam’s Club. Recently, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments selected Heather to receive an Emerging Black Artist award to develop Diary of a First Time Mom.
